A fast-paced, delightfully absurd murder mystery set within a chaotic South African touring theatre company. Written by award-winning playwright Michaela Richards (Dating, Mating & Relating for Dummies, Proof, Romeo and Juliet – Sort Of) and directed by Fleur du Cap-nominated theatre-maker Emma Amber (The Marvelous Wonderettes, Trial and Error, Love Me, Feed Me, Never Leave Me), this sharp-witted comedy blends classic whodunnit intrigue with South African theatrical satire. Because who wouldn’t want SAPS on the case?
The story unfolds when an actress is found dead backstage — killed by a high-heeled shoe to the head — just hours before curtain up. Enter the Afrikaans, flamboyant Detective Eugene Oppenheimer and his eager sidekick, Constable Jane Jones. Determined to crack the case, together they attempt to make sense of a cast full of over-actors, demanding producers, and wildly implausible alibis. Everyone has a secret, and no one is safe with the killer still out there.
With its fast dialogue, bold character work, and moments of pure theatrical chaos, Who Done Did It delivers laugh-out-loud comedy alongside genuine suspense. Each performance includes an interactive 10-minute interval where audiences are invited to vote on who they believe the killer is — making every show unique.
In 2025, Who Done Did It toured three venues across the Western Cape: Theatre Arts in Cape Town, Die Koelkamers Theatre in Paternoster, and The Drama Factory in Somerset West.
